When Henry Ford’s second company failed, he called Henry Leland to assess its assets to prepare for a sale of the company. Leland convinced Ford to stay in business and combined Ford’s latest frame with the Oldsmobile single-cylinder engine. Cadillac Car Company, named after the French explorer Antoine Laumet de La Mothe Cadillac, was born in 1902.

Most Cadillacs are made right here in the United States, while some are made in China and Russia. The Cadillac CT4, CT5, and CT6 are made in Michigan. The Escalade and Escalade ESV are made in Texas and assembled in Russia. The XT4 is made in Kansas. The XT5 and XT6 are made in Tennessee. Some Cadillac CT4, CT5, CT6, XT4, XT5, and XT6 are made in China.

Cadillac was founded in 1902 by Henry Leland. Six years later Cadillac came up with the idea of interchangeable parts, which helped mass-produce automobiles. For this, Cadillac became the first car company to win the Dewar Trophy from the Royal Automobile Club of England yielding its slogan “Standard of the World”.

In 1912, Cadillac became the first car company to remove the crank and produce a car with an electronic self-starter, ignition, and lighting. They won the Dewar Trophy for the second time, making them the only car brand to receive the award twice. In 1915, Cadillac created the V8 engine, which is a staple of its cars today.

In 1927, Cadillac brought designer Henry Earl on board to design the LaSalle convertible coupe. This was the first time a car was created from a design rather than an engineering perspective. Earl created a beautiful, sleek, and elegant car, which helped Cadillac become known as a luxury brand.

In 1941, Cadillac won the first Car of the Year award for designing a car with a tailfin, which is now found in almost every car. It also developed power steering, which is now available in every car, as well. In 1963 Cadillac became the first car company to have seatbelts standard in every vehicle, one year before it became the law for all carmakers.

During the 80s Cadillac began developing new technologies for their cars. They made an engine that can run for 50 miles without coolant. In the 90s they made cars with all electronically controlled powertrain, traction control, anti-lock brakes, and speed-sensitive suspension.

Cadillac was named after the French explorer who discovered Detroit. He is also believed to be an ancestor of Cadillac creator Henry Leland. Cadillac’s logo is a representation of French explorer Cadillac’s coat of arms. Over the years Cadillac modified its logo to be more crisp and sleek to match their “Art and Science” design motto.

The logo is a combination of black, gold, red, silver, and blue. Black against gold denotes wisdom and wealth, red represents boldness, silver stands for purity, charity, and virtue, and blue represents knightly valor. The background color is platinum- the most valuable metal in the world.
